Programs like StoryPathing™ have the power to make a huge difference in your life and career. However, in order for this to occur, you’ll need to put in the work and be serious about getting your story straight. This often requires getting into a state of self-reflection. This can be a challenge, as most of us are not used to being in this state. It requires deep focus and a clear mind. While achieving this may seem tough, here are some steps for effective self-reflection and getting the most our of your story.

Limit Distractions

Whether it’s your phone, computer, television, or others around you, distractions from the outside world can quickly steer you away from a good reflection session. Try to find a space that has as little distractions as possible; turn your phone off, put your computer away, maybe even go to a quiet place outside. This will allow for the strong focus you need.

Be Honest With Yourself

When forming your story, you’ll be asked to reflect on your past, access your present and envision your desired future. In order for you story to actually mean something, you’ll need to be completely honest about each section of your life. When reflecting on your past and present, include every detail that you feel may be important. For your envisioned future, be sure it is the future that YOU want for yourself.

Don’t Rush

Organizing your story is not a quick process. Don’t expect to get it done in a day or even a week. If you try to cram too much information into one session, you’re likely to miss a lot. For me, working on my story in short sessions (45 minutes to an hour) every few days and focusing on one aspect of my life at a time worked out well.

Stay Consistent

As you write your story, you will likely experience new ideas and realizations along the way. It’s important to constantly go back, re-read, and edit what you have already written to make sure your story is consistent all the way through. It will make a major difference when telling it to others!

Return To Your Story

Putting together your story is not a one-and-done deal. In the weeks, months and years to come, your story will constantly evolve. You’ll need to consistently revisit your story and add details that show who you are in the current moment. Doing this will keep your story fresh and authentic.
